What a boiler care plan is

Quick Summary: A care plan turns your annual boiler service into an ongoing arrangement, paid in twelve monthly payments, so the visit gets booked without you having to remember it and you have a set point of contact if something goes wrong in between.

A care plan isn't a one-off visit. It's an ongoing arrangement that covers your annual service automatically and gives you a set point of contact if something goes wrong in between. For older properties where boilers sit tucked away in tight airing cupboards and get forgotten about, that structure matters more than people expect.

Only need a one-off visit? Book a boiler service on its own, or a CP12 gas safety certificate if you let a property.

Want the whole system looked at, not just the boiler? A heating system maintenance visit in Rotherham and Barnsley checks how the boiler, cylinder and controls work together.

The four plans

Quick Summary: Four tiers — Service Only, Basic, Premium and Ultimate. Each builds on the last: more free call-outs, bigger discounts, and wider cover for parts of the system beyond the boiler itself.

Four tiers. Every one includes the annual boiler service, system water testing and priority call-outs — the differences are in what's covered and how much you save.

Winter offer: Join a plan within 30 days of your annual service and get up to 100%* of this year’s service price back, taken off your first twelve monthly payments. See the winter care plan offer. *When you join our Ultimate Care Plan. Offer ends 31 March 2027.

Unvented cylinder servicing can be added to any plan for an additional fee.

Ultimate covers breakdown labour and replacement parts in full — 100% on both. On a plan that already includes five free call-outs a year, that's most of what a bad winter costs you.

Service Only is exactly what it says — the annual service, water testing and priority call-outs, with no cover and no discounts. It's for people who just want the visit booked without having to remember it.

Priority call-outs run in our normal hours — Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Being on a plan means you go ahead of new bookings when we're busy, and we'll do our best to get to you the same day if you call during office hours.

Premium and Ultimate add 24/7 emergency cover on top of that — any hour, any day, on a number we give you when your plan starts. Service Only and Basic don't include out-of-hours cover, and we don't offer it to anyone without a plan.

If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service free on 0800 111 999 whatever cover you have.

Is a care plan worth it, or should you pay per visit?

Honest answer: it depends on your boiler.

If your boiler is young and rarely gives trouble, Service Only is likely all you need. The higher tiers earn their money on older systems, where a single breakdown can cost more than a year of cover — and on landlords juggling annual compliance across more than one property.

The higher tiers are really about certainty and wider cover rather than saving money on any single visit. If you'd rather have the parts and pipework covered before something fails, that's the case for Premium or Ultimate. If your boiler's young and reliable, Service Only or Basic is usually enough.

We'll tell you which one makes sense for your setup rather than pushing you up a tier.

We Remind You When Your Service Is Due, So You Don't Have to Remember

Most people can't remember when their boiler was last serviced. A month slips, then a year, and the first sign is a breakdown in January. We keep track for you: when your service is due, we get in touch to book it. On a care plan it is part of the plan, so it simply happens.

His company always keeps me informed of any changes and will ring and or email to book the yearly boiler service so I don’t need to remember! I would highly recommend him.

Booking and timing

On timing: older housing stock around here tends to have boilers fitted years before current efficiency standards, and those units benefit from being serviced before the cold months set in, not during them when everyone else is calling too. We book care plan visits around that seasonal pattern rather than waiting for a breakdown to force the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a care plan worth it instead of booking a service each year?

A care plan is worth it if you want one less thing to remember, since it bundles your annual service with an ongoing point of contact. Instead of tracking when your last visit was, the schedule is handled for you. That matters most for older properties where boilers sit tucked in tight airing cupboards and get forgotten about. If you'd rather book one at a time, that works too, as long as you stay on a yearly schedule.

What's actually included in a care plan?

It depends on the tier. Service Only covers the annual service, water testing and priority call-outs. Basic adds a free call-out plus starter discounts. Premium and Ultimate add more free call-outs, bigger discounts, cover for parts of the system beyond the boiler itself, and 24/7 emergency call-outs — up to full pipework cover and a five-yearly system flush on Ultimate.

Does a care plan include out-of-hours cover?

Premium and Ultimate do — 24/7 emergency call-outs, any hour, any day, on a number we give you when your plan starts. Service Only and Basic don't; those give you priority call-outs during office hours, meaning you go ahead of non-plan customers, same day where we can and 48 hours at the outside. We don't offer out-of-hours callouts to anyone without a plan. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service free on 0800 111 999 whatever cover you have.

Does an emergency call-out use up my free call-outs?

Yes, the same as a daytime visit. Basic includes one a year, Premium three and Ultimate five. Beyond that, the diagnostics on each visit are charged at the normal rate with your plan discount applied.

Can I put more than one property on care plans?

Yes. Landlords managing several rentals usually put multiple addresses on plans, which keeps service and CP12 renewal dates aligned across all of them instead of tracking each property separately.

Can I cancel a care plan if I no longer need it?

Cancellation and renewal terms vary by plan, so it's worth checking the specifics when you sign up rather than assuming, the same as with any ongoing service agreement.

Do I get priority call-outs in winter?

Yes, that's one of the main benefits. Winter is our busiest season, since cold snaps are exactly when strained boilers finally show symptoms, and plan customers get priority over new bookings. If you're not on a plan, booking early — before the first hard frost — gives you the best chance of a convenient slot.

Full terms are set out on our Boiler Care Plan terms and conditions page.
