Local Heating Engineers for Rotherham

Quick Summary: We are based in Wath upon Dearne, so Rotherham is home ground. Every postcode in the borough, S60 to S66 plus S63 and S64 in the Dearne Valley, is on our standard rate. A boiler service is £114 including VAT and a repair visit is £114 for the first hour.

UberHeats works out of Wath upon Dearne, a few miles up the Dearne from Rotherham town centre. That makes Rotherham the patch we know best: Parkgate and Rawmarsh, Greasbrough and Kimberworth, Wickersley, Bramley and Maltby, Thrybergh and East Dene, and the Dearne Valley villages from Brampton to Thurnscoe, Mexborough and Swinton.

We are Gas Safe registered (584578), Heat Geek Assured and DBS checked, and our engineers work Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Ring during office hours and we will get to you the same day where we can, for £30 extra. Otherwise it is first thing the next working day.

Rotherham Homes, Steel and Coal

Rotherham grew on iron, steel and coal. Parkgate Ironworks opened in 1823, and at its peak the Templeborough steelworks, now the Magna science centre, was more than a mile long and employed 10,000 people. The pits ran along the Dearne and the Don, with Manvers Main and Wath Main on our own doorstep.

That history is still in the houses. Terraced streets built for steelworkers and miners, estates from the middle of the last century, and a lot of newer homes on reclaimed colliery land around Manvers and the Dearne Valley. Each brings its own heating work:

  • Older terraces often have pipework that has been altered bit by bit over the decades, so a fault in one room can start somewhere else entirely
  • Mid-century semis often have a boiler that has been swapped two or three times into the same cupboard, with the controls never updated
  • Newer homes, particularly on the Manvers side, are more likely to have heat pumps, unvented cylinders and smart controls

Hard water

Rotherham's water is hard. Published figures put S60 at around 213 mg of calcium carbonate per litre and S63 at around 235. That limescale settles in boiler heat exchangers, on immersion heaters and in valves, which is why we check for it on every service and why every combi boiler we fit comes with a scale reducer.

A Heat Pump Repair in Wath upon Dearne

In the winter of 2022 we had a call from a detached house in Wath. No heating, no hot water, and the Samsung heat pump showing an E911 error on its display.

E911 on a Samsung heat pump means the unit is not detecting water flowing through it, and without that it will not come on. It is a protection: a heat pump running with no flow could damage itself. The question is always whether the water really has stopped moving, or whether the part that detects it has failed.

Here it was the part. The flow switch had failed and was not registering the flow, so the heat pump stayed off. We fitted a new flow switch and everything came back: heating and hot water both working.

It is a good example of testing before fitting. Guessing at a pump or draining the system would have cost more and fixed nothing. See air source heat pump repair for how we find faults like this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you charge extra to come out to Rotherham?

No. We are based in Wath upon Dearne, and every postcode from S60 to S66, plus S63 and S64 in the Dearne Valley, is on our standard rate. The only Rotherham postcode on Band A is S25 (Dinnington and Anston), where the same work has 10% added for travel.

How quickly can you get to me in Rotherham?

Our engineers work Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Ring during office hours and we will get to you the same day where we can, for £30 extra, otherwise first thing the next working day. We do not offer out-of-hours or emergency call-outs. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service free on 0800 111 999.

Is Rotherham water hard, and does it matter for my boiler?

Yes. Published figures put Rotherham postcodes at over 200 mg of calcium carbonate per litre, which is hard water. Over time the limescale coats the heat exchanger, which is what causes a boiler to kettle or rumble. We check for it on every service, and every combi boiler we fit comes with a scale reducer.

My Samsung heat pump shows E911. What does that mean?

It means the heat pump is not detecting water flowing through it, so it will not start. Sometimes the flow really has stopped, and sometimes the flow switch that detects it has failed, which is what we found on a job in Wath. We test before we fit anything. Heat pump fault finding is £240 including VAT for the first hour.

Can I get a heat pump in Rotherham with the grant?

Yes. Grant-funded heat pump installations go through Heat Geek's Zero Disrupt and Black Label routes, and the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is taken off the price, so you never pay it and claim it back. Every installation starts with a room-by-room heat loss survey, which is £120 including VAT booked with us.
