Heating Engineers Based in the Dearne Valley
Quick Summary: UberHeats is based in Wath upon Dearne, so the Dearne Valley is our own patch. Both S63 and S64 are on our standard rate, whichever council your house comes under. Boiler servicing costs £114 including VAT, and so does the first hour of a repair visit.
We work from Wath upon Dearne, between Brampton and Manvers. That puts the whole valley close by: West Melton and Brampton to the west, Bolton upon Dearne, Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe to the north, Mexborough to the east, and Swinton and Kilnhurst to the south.
The valley does not follow council lines, and its postcodes do not either. Wath, Brampton, West Melton, Swinton and Kilnhurst come under Rotherham. Bolton upon Dearne, Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe come under Barnsley, yet their S63 addresses still say Rotherham. Mexborough is part of Doncaster, with S64 postcodes of its own. We price by postcode, not council, so all of it is standard rate.
UberHeats is Gas Safe registered (584578) and Heat Geek Assured, and our engineers are DBS checked. They work Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, and the office answers the phone Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 12pm.
Dearne Valley Homes, From Pit Terraces to Manvers
The Dearne Valley was built on coal. Manvers Main, Wath Main, Cortonwood at Brampton and Hickleton Main at Thurnscoe all worked the seams here, and the marshalling yard built north of Wath in 1907 was one of the biggest in the country. The announcement in March 1984 that Cortonwood would close was the spark for the miners' strike. Manvers Main closed in 1988, and Hickleton Main, merged with Goldthorpe by then, in 1994.
The houses still show it. In Thurnscoe, almost the whole village east of the railway was built for miners after Hickleton Main reached the Barnsley seam in 1894. Across the valley you will find the same mix of older terraces, estates from the second half of the last century, and new builds. On the old Manvers colliery land alone, more than 300 new homes went up between 2009 and 2015. Each kind of house brings its own heating work:
- Miners' terraces were heated by coal fires when they were built, so central heating came later and was fitted around rooms never designed for it. Pipe runs under floors and through walls can be longer and more awkward than they look, which matters when one radiator stays cold or the system needs a flush
- Older semis often still run a traditional boiler with a hot water cylinder. Switching to a combi needs a quote visit first, because a combi is sized on how much hot water your mains supply can give
- The Manvers new builds went up between 2009 and 2015, so any boiler fitted when the house was built is now more than ten years old. If yours is starting to need repairs, a like-for-like replacement can be priced in a few minutes with our instant boiler quote
A Zero Disrupt Heat Pump in Mexborough
In December 2025 we fitted an air source heat pump to a semi-detached house on the Pastures estate in Mexborough, built around 2010. It went in through Heat Geek's Zero Disrupt route, which is designed to replace a boiler with a heat pump with as little upheaval as possible.
Two things usually worry people about a job like this. The first is the hot water cylinder. This house already had an unvented cylinder, fitted when it was built, and we kept it. The second is the radiators. Here they run off 10mm microbore pipe, the thin pipework many people assume rules a heat pump out. The heat loss design showed that no radiator or pipework upgrades were needed, so none were done.
Since then the house has stayed at a comfortable temperature, the system is running as efficiently as it was designed to, and the hot water is just what the owners were used to from their boiler.
That is why every heat pump we fit starts with a room-by-room heat loss survey rather than a guess. The survey decides what needs changing, and sometimes the answer is nothing. Currently grants of £7,500 are available, and on a Zero Disrupt install the grant comes off the price. See air source heat pump installation for how it works.
Mexborough, Swinton and Kilnhurst
S64 takes in Mexborough, Swinton and Kilnhurst, along the River Don. Mexborough sits just east of Manvers. It is a Doncaster town, home to Montagu Hospital, founded in 1904, and to a railway locomotive depot that was one of its biggest employers for more than a century, until it closed in 1964. Swinton, in Rotherham borough, was famous for the Rockingham Pottery, which closed in 1842. Its kiln still stands in Pottery Ponds park.
The prices are the same as in Wath. A boiler service in Mexborough or Swinton is £114, and so is a landlord gas safety certificate. Just over the border, Conisbrough and Denaby Main (DN12) are on our standard rate too, and are covered on our Doncaster page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you charge extra for the Dearne Valley?
No. We are based in Wath upon Dearne, and every S63 and S64 postcode is on our standard rate. So are the neighbouring areas of Wombwell (S73), Rawmarsh (S62), and Conisbrough and Denaby Main (DN12).
I live in Goldthorpe and my council is Barnsley, but my address says Rotherham. Does that change the price?
No. We price by postcode, not by council. The whole of S63 is standard rate, whether you are in Wath, Brampton and West Melton, which come under Rotherham, or Bolton upon Dearne, Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe, which come under Barnsley.
Can you come out the same day in Wath, Mexborough or Swinton?
Where we can fit you in, yes, for £30 extra. Our engineers work Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, so ring on a weekday, and if we cannot get to you that day we come first thing the next working day. The office answers the phone Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 12pm. There is no out-of-hours or emergency call-out service. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service free on 0800 111 999.
Can a heat pump work with microbore radiator pipes?
Sometimes, yes. On a Zero Disrupt heat pump we fitted in Mexborough in December 2025, the radiators run off 10mm microbore pipe and no radiator or pipework upgrades were needed. Whether yours can stay as they are is decided by a room-by-room heat loss survey, which is £120 including VAT booked with us.
My Manvers new build still has its original boiler. Should I replace it?
Not just because of its age. If it is serviced every year and runs well, keep it. If it is breaking down more often, or a repair needs an expensive part, you can price a like-for-like replacement online in a few minutes with our instant boiler quote. Boilers are fitted from £2,200 including VAT.
Can you do the gas safety certificate on a house I rent out in the Dearne Valley?
Yes. A landlord gas safety certificate (CP12) is £114 including VAT, covering the boiler, gas meter and pipework, with £42 for each extra gas appliance. Have the boiler serviced at the same visit and it is £186 in total. The certificate is emailed to you once the check is done.
